 ORGASM

THE

GAP

hey, sis. we made it; the climax of our journey here on clit-ocracy.com (pun intended). in the exploration of how contemporary heterosexual sexual interactions are gendered lies a symbol that embodies the result of disempowering women as sexual agents—that is, the orgasm gap.

the orgasm gap is the idea that gendered inequalities in sexuality result in women orgasming at an exponentially lower rate than their male counterparts. when applying this idea to the broader context of the intersection of gender and sexuality, the orgasm gap results from the cultural narrative that depicts male sexuality as more important than female sexuality.

THE BIG

"O"

THE GAP

LET'S FACE THE FACTS

percentage of women who always orgasm during partnered sex

39%

percentage of women who have "faked it" in bed

75%

compared to 91% of men creating a 52% orgasm gap

percentage of women who never orgasm during partnered sex

19%

compared to just 2% of men

TWO OTHER ORGASM GAPS

to help our understanding of the orgasm gap between men and women in a heterosexual relationship, let's look at two more pleasure gaps.

LESBIAN vs. STRAIGHT SEX

an orgasm gap exists between lesbian and straight women.

lesbian women have significantly more orgasms than straight women.  (for men, orgasm rate doesn’t vary with sexual orientation).

&

WOMEN ALONE vs. WITH A PARTNER

an orgasm gap exists between when women masturbate vs. when women are with a male partner.

women have more orgasms when they masturbate than when they are with a partner.

WHY DO LESBIAN WOMEN AND WOMEN MASTURBATING HAVE MORE ORGASMS THAN WOMEN HAVING SEX WITH A MALE PARTNER?

if you guessed cultural ignorance of female sexual pleasure in heterosexual relationships, then we have a winner.

by applying the knowledge we've gained through the clitocracy campaign, we arrive at the conclusion that the orgasm gap is a cultural problem caused by the sexual inequalities between men and women in heterosexual relationships.

the orgasm gap provides tangible evidence that our society continues to perpetuate a male-centric view of sexuality at the disadvantage of women. thus, the orgasm gap is the strongest piece of evidence that proves the hook-up culture is a problematic practice that should be addressed on college campuses, starting with TCU.

HOW TO CLOSE

THE GAP

TO CLOSE THE ORGASM GAP WE NEED A CULTURAL SHIFT IN THE WAY WE UNDERSTAND FEMALE SEXUAL PLEASURE.

BOTH WOMEN AND MEN MUST UNDERSTAND THAT THE CLITORIS IS KEY TO WOMEN'S ORGASMS AND MUST HOLD CLITORAL STIMULATION AS EQUAL TO PENETRATION.

like most social justice issues, the contemporary sex-norms that disadvantage women won't be solved overnight.

however, by raising awareness to the TCU community, clitocracy is a step in the right direction by sparking a conversation about the pleasure inequalities that are pervasive in college sexual relationships.
